Post-Production Peek

The fill-up this month is about LINE, and I'm working on a few, fun projects to share.

Since I am still really working on getting my house here in Paducah in order the projects....
well, they all somehow will help me continue to pull it together.

Right now, on the bed in my master-bedroom is an old favorite quilt that we've been using for a long time, and there's a small sitting area with some wicker chairs that are just calling out for something.

This is what I'm talking about...

What would you do?
I've been working on something easy & fun....
Check back in tomorrow to see what I came up with.

The Stitched Line

Yesterday I posted a bunch of LINE examples...
that I hope mine inspired you a bit,
or inspired you to go search out a few of your own.
There was one that I also posted on my Facebook page and asked the question,
"How would you stitch this?"

Loved all the answers... and, of course there is no right answer....that's the fun of it!

The stitched line on it's own is a simple, but it easily can produce an immeasurable WOW factor.

Later on this week I'll be sharing a simple stitched line project, so today I thought I would share my own hand-stitching tool kit, and a favorite book that shares its own WOW.

I never travel far without my own small box of stitching tools.
Last year my daughter-in-law, Dawn, calling it my 'survival kit' recreated it as a product that I now sell.
The Stitching Happy-Survival Kit includes all my favorite handstitching tools:
There are 11 Sharp needles for beading, 12 Crewels for embroidery,
Clover's double needle threader, Chacoliner & cutter,
and of course a 'real' needle-sharpening strawberry.

Add in some thread, and anything is possible.

Don't believe me?This book is a favorite in my library, and quite the page turner.
In it, you are taken into collections of French textile companies, and into hand embroidery workshops in Paris as they take a real scene and re-create them with fabric & stitches.

Have an grand day...
and as you are out and about find a bit of LINE in the
architecture, nature or supermarket
to inspire the day!

Rose's Filling Station 2013

the first step in the creative cycle is about filling up -
that is filling ourselves up with information and inspiration

the best stuff also involves a bit of perspiration, for once we get ahold of something that inspires us,
our creativity is encouraged to take flight -- soaring off in search of new discoveries.

my plan is to make this space Rose's Filling Station
here, each month I'll be highlighting one of the basic design elements in:

exercises
projects
guest interviews
tutorials
pinterst hops
tool searches
...and a host of other regular features

there will also be on-line workshops
& new e-workbooks to help keep the filling process going

I hope you plan to join in -- there will be plenty on chances,
and I'd love to share what each of you is working on, too!

For January- fill up with me as we head off on the discovery of LINE.

Huh...Pinterest, what?

Happy Sunday everyone ---

I wanted to share with you a little about what I call a Pinterest Hop,
why I love them,
and how I hope you join in, too!

Pinning has become a guilty pleasure for us visual people.
Finding images of things we love, and having a (PIN) board to place them &  know right where to find them.

My early pinning seemed to take on a life of it's own -- it felt like hopping...no sooner would I find and artist's pin before I immediately headed off to find more.

So, I would hop from Pinterest to Bing searches,
back to pinning
--- I think you get the Hop part.

Since January is all about LINE, why not Pinterest Hop in search of inspiring artists using line in amazing ways. My own hop is continuing, but I thought I might add couple of LINE hints that might encourage your own Hop.

Here are few examples of how LINE may be used:

Even finding one photo showing line used in each of these ways would be quite a treat....
so hop on!

First Friday - First Pinterest Hop

This first Friday of 2013 finds me still trying to get my act together. January's newsletter went WVSA on me. (wanting very special attention)

But it is now on it's way out into cyberspace, so I'm up for a bit of a treat.

My treat of choice today/
non-fattening of course is a Pinterest Hop.

It always makes me happy and today I'm off in search of LINE examples.

I'll be pinning my finds to my new board -- Month of Art Basics - Line
But, I'm also going to put together a slide show of my finds for Monday.

If you jump in and find images that you love, leave me the link(s) in the comments hereand I'll add them to the slide show.

Here's the basic definition of LINE -- leaves lots of room for interpretation, so have FUN!

Making Letters Using Line - A How To

Yesterday I started the year off by sharing my 2013 stitched numbers. When I started to make this I was looking for a way to create the numbers using only LINE --
January is all about line, right?
The stitching part was for myself, for this method of using lines can be done with pen & ink, paint...
and, the list can go on and on.

So, here's how I went about it:
Using my ipad. I found  find some letters --
then I pulled the screen to make them larger
and laid tracing paper over the screen to trace the numbers
Putting the ipad away,
I traced over the numbers in marker and cut each apart
Then placing them onto my printer each was enlarged to my chosen size.
Once enlarged trace them onto freezer paper
cut each number out and ready for ironing into place.
.
fun time - I went looking for shiny fabric of course
and then the most sparkling thread I could findI
narrowing it down to just two colors from
all this wonderful Kreinik thread I had.
to prepare for stitching I sandwiched my fabrics with batting
and even though the freezer paper sticks to the fabric I knew
that I would be traveling with it so I basted it all together with thread
It was time to stitch, so using  my favorite 'seed stitch'
I stitchedl in all the areas  OUTSIDE the freezer paper letters
once the outside are was completed I removed
all the basting thread & freezer paper letters
then using my 2nd color of thread
I stitched again close to the edges of each to glitter them up

More about line and fun ways to study it and use it, tomorrow!

Here We Go....Again!

Happy New Year to you all...
2012 has been a wild year, but happily all the predictions of old never came to pass and here we are...

The stitching for my shiny, happy welcome to the new year started on Christmas and was easy and fun to work on. It is all created using line -- Line is the first of the basic design elements that I'll be sharing about -- spending the whole month of January on related projects, lessons, wanderings and guests, too!

I have been delighting in how easy the holographic thread has been to had stitch, and will show you the process tomorrow...right here,

BUT, today is about celebrating
so have a grand day and kick-off 2013 in some favorite way!

Would love to hear what those may be --
Dave & I are kicking back to do nothing... then taking in a movie, you?
